Creating a Simulation
Simulations consist of an animation tool, a set of input tools, and an output table. Students select parameters from the input tools to influence the animation. After the animation runs, the simulation results appear in the output table. Students can run multiple trials with different parameters to insert additional rows into this table.
A non-scorable simulation may be used in a stem or stimulus.

On many elements in the Renderer tab of a Simulation, you can add notes by hovering over an element and clicking at the upper-right corner. A Text Editor window appears with a field for note text. To save, click Done. You may want to do this to remind yourself of something or to communicate with another item writer working on this interaction.
To access interaction property controls in the Renderer tab, click the Interaction Properties button at the upper-left corner. A drop-down panel opens.
The Renderer tab for Simulation interactions is divided into two tabs:
- Layout Editor: This tab allows you to design the layout of the interaction and configure the input elements, command elements, static elements, animation elements, and output table included in the interaction.
- Equations & Mapping: This tab allows you to define the variables and functions used to populate the output table.
